To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS Workers are killed by workplace hazards every day;
WHEREAS every year, hundreds of thousands more suffer injury or illness because of their working conditions;
WHEREAS workers have the right to be safe at work and to be free from violence while doing their jobs, and no one should go to work feeling afraid for their well-being or for their life, and
WHEREAS workplace illnesses and deaths have long gone underreported.
Therefore, we the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to take action on workplace health and safety and reduce workplace deaths by:
- Bringing back the WSIB’s Workwell Audit to ensure employers’ compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Establishing an occupational disease registry independent of the WSIB and government, with input by labour and community groups.
