TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
WHEREAS youth sports offer many benefits – physical, mental and social – and are a beloved part of childhood;
WHEREAS children and youth learn important skills like teamwork, communication, time management, discipline, responsibility and leadership through participation in sports;
WHEREAS participation in sport has been shown to have a positive impact on academics through increased concentration and focus;
WHEREAS children who are active in sports are more likely to remain active into adulthood and to develop lifelong healthy habits, and
WHEREAS the Minister of Education is saying that he will require teachers to dock student’s grades if they miss school due to sports tournaments;
THEREFORE WE THE UNDERSIGNED, PETITION THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO TO:
Defend the right of our children to participate in sports and demand that the Minister of Education permit youth sports without academic penalty.
